Turn what matters to you into lasting local impact.
A charitable fund can reflect your values, honor someone important to you, support a favorite organization or cause, help students pursue education, or give HAF flexibility to respond as Summers County changes. HAF will help you choose a structure and shape fund language that remains true to your purpose while allowing the fund to serve the community effectively over time.
Fund Options
Gives HAF the flexibility to respond to changing local needs and promising opportunities. This is a strong choice for donors who want their gift to remain useful to Summers County for generations, even as community needs evolve.
Supports a broad area you care about – such as education, health, human services, the arts, recreation, beautification, animals, or the environment – without limiting support to one organization.
Provides ongoing support to one or more charitable organizations named by the donor, subject to the fund agreement and HAF’s charitable responsibilities.
Supports students pursuing education or training. Donors work with HAF to establish meaningful and legally appropriate eligibility and selection criteria.
Supports a specific charitable project, program, or short-term community purpose. Unlike an endowed fund, contributions are not invested to provide permanent annual support; gifts are held by HAF and distributed for the fund’s approved charitable purpose. Pass-through funds may be appropriate when donors or organizations want to raise and use charitable dollars within a defined period.
All pass-through funds are subject to HAF approval, a written fund agreement, applicable administrative fees, and HAF’s charitable oversight.
How to Start a Fund
- Begin with a conversation. Tell HAF what you care about, whom you hope to help, and how you would like the fund to work.
- Choose the fund structure. HAF will help identify the fund type that best matches your charitable goals.
- Create the fund agreement. HAF will work with you or your representatives to document the fund’s name, purpose, and administration.
- Open and build the fund. An initial gift of at least $1,500 is required. Endowed funds must reach $10,000, within five years.
Fund minimums help create enough annual charitable support to carry out the donor’s intended purpose and cover the level of administration the fund requires.
Ways to Build Your Fund
A fund may be established or built over time with gifts from an individual, family, business, organization, estate, or group of supporters. Contributions may include cash, checks, online gifts, securities, beneficiary designations, and other approved assets.
Once a fund is established, others may contribute to it. A fund bearing a donor’s or family’s name is not necessarily closed to additional gifts.
A Fund That Can Grow With Your Vision
We can shape the fund’s language to give it flexibility for the future while remaining true to the vision and purpose you establish. That balance helps protect your intent and allows the fund to remain useful as the community and charitable landscape change.
